Stillman College invites applications for the position of Adjunct Instructor of Journalism. We seek a dedicated educator committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching and student engagement within a liberal arts environment rooted in the historical mission of Stillman College. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate journalism and media communication courses and support student development through effective instruction, mentorship, and active engagement in the classroom.
Primary Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate journalism and media communication courses as assigned by the department.
Teach courses in areas such as media writing, mass communication, news writing and reporting, feature writing, digital media production, radio production, desktop publishing, or related areas based on departmental needs.
Deliver instruction using effective pedagogical practices and appropriate instructional technologies.
Foster student engagement through active learning, critical inquiry, and multimedia storytelling.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
Utilize the College's Learning Management System (LMS) to support instruction and communication.
Participate in departmental meetings and activities as appropriate.
Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Communication, Media Studies, Information Science, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
Demonstrated knowledge of journalism and media communication content areas.
Ability to teach undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Experience using instructional technology and learning management systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in Journalism, Mass Communication, Communication, Information Science, or a closely related field.
College-level teaching experience.
Experience teaching courses such as Intro to Media Writing, Intro to MassCommunication, News Writing and Reporting, Feature Writing, News Media, Desktop Publishing, Digital Media Production, Radio Production, or related undergraduate journalism courses.
Professional experience in journalism, broadcasting, reporting, media production, content creation, or digital storytelling.
Experience with industry-standard software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Final Cut Pro, or comparable media production software.
Experience mentoring and advising undergraduate students.
Evidence of professional engagement through scholarship, professional practice, presentations, publications, or related activities.
