Description

The Relief Director serves as an essential overnight presence in the residence halls, ensuring the safety, security, and wellbeing of students and facilities during non-traditional
hours. Acting as the designated point of contact during overnight operations, the Relief Director is responsible for monitoring hall access, enforcing policies, providing support to students, and responding to emergencies in collaboration with Campus Police and Residence Life staff.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain an active and visible presence at the residence hall front desk during overnight hours.
  • Ensure all guests and residents comply with check-in and visitation policies.
  • Monitor building entry points and report any suspicious activity or unauthorized access.
  • Assist residents with concerns or issues, escalating to professional staff as needed.
  • Conduct periodic walkthroughs of the facility to check for safety, cleanliness, and policy adherence.
  • Document incidents, maintenance issues, and nightly activity in detailed logs.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and coordinate with Campus Police and on-call personnel.
  • Provide excellent customer service and foster a welcoming, respectful environment.
  • Manage administrative duties such as package logging or temporary key distribution.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions and participate in team meetings as scheduled.

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college experience preferred.
  • Experience in residential life, campus security, or customer service is advantageous.
  • Ability to remain alert and attentive throughout overnight shifts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capacity to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive residential environment.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Stationed indoors at a residence hall desk or in nearby office space.
  • May require periodic indoor walking rounds.
  • Overnight work hours, including weekends and holidays, are expected.
  • Must remain on-site and awake for the full duration of each assigned shift.
