Stillman College is seeking a dedicated Reading Specialist to join our School of Education. The ideal candidate will support literacy development by teaching pedagogy and content courses, guiding students through structured P-12 school experiences, and contributing to the development and implementation of statewide literacy initiatives, including AL-PIE.

 

Job Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities

  • Attend State department meetings pertaining to Literacy courseworks and legislation.
  • Attend State department meetings pertaining to AL-PIE development, implementation, writing.
  • Teach elementary pedagogy and content courses
  • Teach program and departmental courses
  • Conduct research and scholarly pursuits within the department
  • Perform service activities to include advisement and committee assignments
  • Participate in structured real-world experiences in P-12 school setting(s)
  • Attend regular departmental and School meetings
  • Serve on committees
  • Monitor and evaluate student outcomes through informal and formative assessments
  • Communicate and interact with students effectively and consistently
  • Develop and select instructional plans and materials to meet student needs
  • Maintain appropriate records and follow required procedures and best practices

 

Qualifications

  • Ph.D, Ed.D. or Ed.S. specializing in Reading for Elementary and Secondary Education
  • Successful teaching experience at the P-12 level along with teaching experience within a multicultural environment
  • Requires 30+ hours in reading
